Veteran journalist, author of ‘Samanantar Kosh: Hindi Thesaurus’ Arvind Kumar will be awarded ‘Shalaka Samman’ the highest honour of Delhi state in the field of Hindi literature. Arvind Kumar (81) started his career as a child labour in a publishing house in Delhi in 1945 but with his dedication and work he become editor of magzines like ‘Madhuri’, ‘Sarvottam’ (Hindi version of Reader’s Digest) and several other magazines.

He has also created several dictionaries and thesaurus in Hindi-English and Hindi-Sanskrit. “Contribution of Arvind Kumar is unparallel in Hindi literature, especially in dictionaries and thesaurus”, says Ashok Chakradhar, Deputy Chairman, Hindi Akademy, Delhi. Arvind Kumar will be given away the award in a function in New Delhi on Friday. Several others personalities will be awarded on this occasion. These Include Parmanand Shrivastav, Giridhar Rathi, Devendra Raj Ankur, Alok Puranik, Ramanika Gupta, Krishn Shalabh and Brij Mohan Bakshi.
