वर्ड पावर - Word Power

This may look like designed for language learners, but should be of interest to everyone. After all, all of us need to have our SAY one day.

Here are some English expressions and their Hindi meanings and some other words which maybe used for ”say”:

say – air, articulate, communicate, enunciate, express oneself, mention, observe, open one”s mouth, pronounce, quip, quote, remark, shoot, speak, state, talk, utter, verbalize, vocalize, vociferate, voice.

कहना – अभिव्यक्त करना, उच्चारना, कथित करना, प्रकट करना, फ़रमाना, बात कहना, बोलना, भणना, भाखना, वाचित करना, वाणी देना, संप्रेषण करना, संप्रेषित करना, स्वर देना, स्वरित करना, होंठ पर लाना,

Some examples of the usage of ”say” as a verb (various tenses, genders and numbers) Before the oblique sign is the masculine form and after it the feminine one) –

I say - मैँ कहता हूँ/कहती हूँ.

We say - हम कहते/कहती हैँ

You say - तुम कहते/कहती होतू कहता/कहती हैआप कहते/कहती हैँ.

He/she says – वह कहता/कहती है.

They say – वे कहते/कहती हैँ.

I/we/you/they said – मैँ ने/हम ने/तुम ने/उन्हों ने कहा

I will say – मैँ कहूँगा/कहूँगी

We will say – हम कहेँगे/कहेँगी

You will say - तुम कहोगे/कहोगी

He will say – वह कहेगा/कहेगी

They will say - वे कहेँगे/कहेँगी.

The practice is common for all verb usages in Hindi. One more thing needs to be clarified at this point. in Hindi, for ”he” we use वह generally, but if a person is an object of respect we call him वे and use the plural form of verb for himSimilar rules apply for ”you” and a repectful ”you”For example commonly you mean तुम, a close friend or a lowly person may be called तू, and a respctful person is called आप. For तू the singular form of verb is used. For the rest of the two we use a plural form.
